Twitter "Reviews" for the week ended 21st March 2010

Cinderella (50, Geronimi/Jackson) 68 I'm sure I would liked it more as a child, perhaps you should only watch children's classics with kids.

La dama y la muerte (s) (09, Gracia) 38 Good idea ruined by roller-coaster action and machismo buffoonery.

Planet 51 (09, Blanco) 55 Hommage/pilfering from classic movies to please the adults. Central idea is innovative but story is humdrum.

Green Zone (10, Greengrass) 51 Exhilirating until the Magellan reveal, thereafter uses a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Big disappointment

Chicago (02, Marshall) 72 I chose with dread with memories of Nine, this is much better, story, songs and choreography all work.Rioutous fun

Together (He ni zai yi qi) (02, Kaige Chen) 57 Child prodigy manipulated by teacher and ambitious father. Lili role decidely odd.

The Last Days of Disco (98, Stillman) 83 Spoken unspoken thoughts dominate. Ruminations on class, movements and human interactions.Excellent

Sweet Sixteen (02,Loach) 84 The pitch and patois rings true, excellent disparity between normal childhood and lack of opportunity excel.

Chloe (09,Egoyan) 61 Neeson and Moore are fascinating as couple,Orig dealt with prostitute character better, shoulda lost Chloe altogether

Examined Life (08, Taylor) 53 Zizek was the only one to make use of the "walk" effectively, Cornell West entertained but this is more radio.

A Life Less Ordinary (97, Boyle) 21 From Trainspotting to this? McGregor, Hunter and Diaz conspire to make this a torturous 100+ minutes

Appaloosa (08, Harris) 70 A treatise on the corrupt nature of any law. Harris and Viggo impress even if lexicography joke wears itself out.

Brick (06, Johnson) 78 Refreshing, original and striking. Dialogue and mixture of school and film noir stand out. A rather pleasant surprise

After the Wedding (06,Bier) 81 The illusion of control, paternity vs nurture and philanthropy are stylishly examined.Great glimpses of quiet

Bonnie and Clyde (67, Penn) 86 It is the characterisation that makes it noteworthy. The contrast between Bonnie and Blanche is used well.

The Burning Plain (08, Arriaga) 60 Interwines itself into a ball that is unimaginatively unwound. Theron and Lawrence do good work.

The Public Enemy (31,Wellman) 73 Cagney is gangster par excellence. His brutality and immorality are centre stage. Lacks context of the time
